Cashman Rejects Reyes for Yankees

Jose Reyes going to the cross town rival Yankees is out of the scenario. Brian Cashman put an end to the speculation last night. "That's just not going to happen," he said. Cashman gave a vote of confidence to Derek Jeter and the backup, Eduardo Nunez, who is filling in admirably for him while he works to return from the injured right calf that landed him on the 15-day disabled list. "We have an everyday shortstop in Derek Jeter," said Cashman. ... "But we do need a setup man." When Cashman means "everyday shortstop" does he mean 2 days off and a game batting in the DH spot?

Mets acquire Shortstop Chin-lung Hu in minor trade with Dodgers

The Mets quietly announced a minor trade Monday, acquiring shortstop Chin-lung Hu from the Los Angeles Dodgers for minor league left-handed pitcher Mike Antonini. Hu, 26, split last season between the Dodgers and Triple-A Albuquerque of the Pacific Coast League. The 5-foot-11, 188-pounder started the season with the Triple-A Isotopes before being recalled to the majors on June 17. The right-hand-hitting Hu returned to Triple-A on June 23, before he was called back to the Dodgers on September 6. He appeared in 14 games with the Dodgers in 2010 and got 3 hits in 23 at-bats. Hu was considered a defensive gem, however he was unable to build upon a minor-league campaign in 2007 when he had an on-base percentage of .364 and slugging percentage of .507 in Double-A and Triple-A combined. In his major-league career, Hu has a .241 OBP and .283 slugging over 191 plate appearances. The Mets now have seven middle infielders on their 40-man roster, including Hu, Justin Turner and recent Rule 5 pick Brad Emaus, all of whom will presumably battle for a bench role in Spring Training. This should light a fire under Reyes to stay healthy and play better defense.. Hu by the Numbers:
