Rockies Claim David Wright on Waivers???

According to Denver Post, the Rockies, as with other teams, put a waiver claim on Mets’ third baseman David Wright.

It’s unclear who was awarded the claim, and the Mets have made it known that they aren’t trading Wright. They can just pull him back off waivers.

That said, this is another sign that the Rockies will be prepared to act quickly if Wright becomes available.

The Mets have told teams they aren’t moving him. So why put him on waivers?

It’s a common process with most players. Teams do it to find out which teams are interested, possibly creating a starting point for trade talks down the road.

Reports from multiple executives is that there remains a chance that Wright might become available if the team re-signs shortstop Jose Reyes at top dollar.

For now, Wright isn’t going anywhere. But the Rockies search for a third baseman will continue, and they will be first in line if Wright hits the trade market.

The Rockies are taking a flier on  Kevin Kouzmanoff, who will get a “series of starts” at third base beginning today, according to manager Jim Tracy. Ian Stewart’s future remains in doubt.

He’s going on the Triple-A DL with a wrist injury after it acted up against last night during batting practice. It’s possible he won’t play again this season.
