My reactions and commentary to the news of Jose Reyes to Marlins

My first reactions to the news of Jose Reyes to the Miami Marlins was not startling to me. I sought of thought that the Brewers were going to throw a monkey wrench into the equation, but that never happened..

As Mets Fans, we can all feel the same way today about Reyes that we did when Our Beloved Darryl Strawberry joined the Dodgers many moons ago. Didn't he go to play with his best friend too?  Eric Davis..

We can all wish Jose the best and we can all relate in bad economic times , who in their right mind would turn down that kind of money?  DUH!

So now we can all enjoy watching Jose prance, dance and bash elbows with Hanley Ramirez and all their extra parts the Miami Marlins can accumulate at the winter meetings, hopefully not Albert Pujols included...

Is Jose Reyes worth 6 years, $120 Million?

Doubt it
As the consensus piles up on how much Jose Reyes will cash in this off-season,  Jon Heyman of SI.com gave his take on how much he thinks Jose Reyes will eventually ransom. Heyman said he will get 6 Years, $120 Million.

The question remains, is Jose Reyes worth all this cash?

Did Jose Reyes drive in over 100 RBI's last year that I was not aware of?

Is he a $20 Million a year player?  Plus can any team take a risk on him for all those years with his history of leg problems.

Take a look at his numbers and you decide..

Jose Reyes Career Numbers:

In 9 years that Jose Reyes has played for the Mets, he has only played 150 games or more 4 seasons.. Now he averages about 130 Games... Reyes between 2005-2008 averaged 65 stolen bases.. Now he only averages 35..

Basically everyone who is vying for his services are paying for his four glorious seasons in the past, plus the fact that he won the National League Batting Title last season in only 126 games.

To me it does not add up to $20 Million a year, but that's just me..

Sandy take the draft picks and call it a day!

Carlos Beltran says the Giants need Jose Reyes

Adam Rubin of ESPN NY said that Carlos Beltran may not remain with the San Francisco Giants in 2012. Regardless, he thinks the team should make a run at Jose Reyes as a free agent.

In fact, Beltran believes a bat like Reyes is needed for him to want to re-sign with the Giants.

"The first option for this team should be finding a guy who's a leadoff batter," Beltran said in the San Francisco Chronicle. "Then, if you want to add another bat, I could be the second option.

"I think that's what I see from this year, the time that I've been here. We've had great pitching, a great bullpen. At the end of the day, the issue here has been, the team doesn't score runs. The only way you can manufacture runs is to have a guy at the top of the lineup who gets on base, steals bases and makes the job easier for the guys behind."
