Mets Rumors: D'Backs and Mariners sent scouts to watch Mets prospects

Mets Rumors:

According to ESPN's Adam Rubin, there was a army of Arizona Diamondbacks scouts, as well as one from the Seattle Mariners, that were on hand watching Mets prospects.

Arizona dispatched special assistant Todd Greene and two other scouts. They saw Syndergaard facing right-hander Logan Verrett on a back field, as well as Kevin Plawecki behind the plate. Former Mets GM Joe McIlvaine was on hand representing the Mariners.

The D'backs and Mariners remain possible trade partners for a shortstop. The Mets have been scouting Mariners infielder Nick Franklin. The D'Backs have Chris Owings and Didi Gregorius, most likely Gregorius would be the likely trade candidate with Owings getting to starting nod.

Seattle Mariners Take a Chance, Sign Oliver Perez to Minor League Contract

Left-handed pitcher Oliver Perez, who won 15 games for the New York Mets in 2007 before hitting hard times, signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners on Wednesday. Perez, 30, was invited to major-league spring training.

Perez followed his breakthrough '07 season by going 10-7 in 34 starts for the Mets in 2008, earning a three-year, $36 million contract from the Mets.

But he was hampered by knee problems, eventually requiring surgery, in 2009, and went 3-4 with a 6.82 earned-run average in 14 starts. That was followed by a disastrous 2010 season, in which Perez went 0-5 with a 6.80 ERA in 17 games (seven starts).
