Mets looking to fill backup infielder role

According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, The Mets are very interested in looking to add a backup infielder to their payroll.

Heyman says the Mets like Ryan Theriot, Jack Wilson, and Ronny Cedeno as candidates.

My favorite is Theriot because of what I seen of him when he played in for the Cubs and some last year with the Cards.. He has fire and grit and I think if Theriot can get some AB's, the Mets will get their money's worth. He is a leader type that the Mets are lacking in their clubhouse.

Mets interested in INF Ryan Theriot

According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, The Mets are interested in Ryan Theriot. I posted in early December that I thought Theriot would be a good investment for the Mets after the demise of Jose Reyes.

Theriot has played most of the infield and even the outfield in the past..

Mets can go shopping here, there are a couple of intriguing names on this list. But OF Ryan Spilborghs seems to be the strangest, but that might lead to a Carlos Beltran Rockies signing, which has been rumored.. I would love to see the Mets sign Spilborghs as a right handed bat off the bench..

In addition to Ryan Spilborghs, the Mets might be interested in C Jason Jaramillo, INF Brooks Conrad, INF Jeff Keppinger, P Jose Mijares,  P Jo-Jo Reyes, P Joe Saunders, OF Luke Scott, P Andy Sonnanstine, INF Ryan Theriot, which all can help the Mets in some capacity..

I posted recently that I think Ryan Theroit would be a great fit for the Mets because he can come cheap and play multiple positions .. Earlier in his Cubs career he had a good OBP, which can get the Mets brass chirping..

Cards are likely to non-tender SS Ryan Theriot, Might be perfect fit for Mets

According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Cardinals are likely to non-tender Ryan Theriot.

The Cards were not satisfied with Theriot's defense at shortstop this past year and have committed to Daniel Descalso as their starting second baseman for 2012.

Heyman suggests that the Mets, Braves, Reds, Astros, Blue Jays and Royals might have interest.

I would love to see the Mets sign Ryan Theriot because I think it would ease the pain of Tejada playing short everyday. Theriot made $3.3 Million last year. Theriot also plays 2nd base, 3rd, LF, and RF. Mets need a utility man and the price might be right and a perfect fit.. Decent OBP numbers might make him tempting for Sandy and CO.
