Mets Rumors: Ryan Braun for Ike Davis? Could be a possibility over Aoki

Two Mets Targets

Mets Rumors:

According to Matt Cerrone of, The Mets might be more likely to trade OF Ryan Braun for Ike Davis, instead of OF Norichika Aoki.

Milwaukee is trying to make room for OF prospect Khris Davis, and they’re also looking for a left-handed power bat at first base.

“They’ve indicated that they have extra first basemen, and we have a need,” Brewers GM Doug Melvin said during the GM Meetings..

Braun is guaranteed $113 million over the next seven seasons, and buzz from Milwaukee suggests they’ll pay a good chunk of it to force a change of scenery. Braun was suspended without pay for the final 65 games last season after admitting to violating MLB’s performance-enhancing drug policy. Braun tried to discredit the man who collected his urine sample in 2011 by telling peers he was a Cubs fan and anti-Semitic.

Braun spent part of his September off calling season-ticket holders to apologize for the incident.

Mets players skeptical about Ryan Braun's claims that he did not use perfomance enhancing drugs

According to the NY Daily News, deep skepticism about Ryan Braun's claims  that he did not use performance-enhancing drugs pervaded the Mets clubhouse on Friday.

"Ryan Braun is out there saying this shows he is innocent," one Met said. "Does that mean O.J. Simpson is innocent, too?"

Although disagreement between their union and league about Braun left players feeling awkward discussing the issue publicly, many in the Mets' clubhouse were uncomfortable with the N.L. MVP's successful appeal of a 50-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs.

"Oh, wow," a Mets player said on Friday, after hearing of Braun's chain-of-custody explanation. "That was his defense? Now every positive test is going to be challenged. That could be a mess."

Added a third player: "What a joke."

Another Met said: "Seems like he's guilty."

When it was mentioned to another player that Braun did not have the muscled look of the prototypical steroid user, the player said, "Yeah, but looks can be deceiving. You never know from looking at guys if they are doing something."

2011 NL MVP Ryan Braun Tested Positive for a performance-enhancing drug

Reigning NL MVP Ryan Braun has tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug, reports Mark Fainaru-Wada and T.J. Quinn of ESPN. was the first to report the news (on Twitter). Braun is facing a 50-game suspension and is disputing the positive test through arbitration.

"There are highly unusual circumstances surrounding this case which will support Ryan's complete innocence and demonstrate there was absolutely no intentional violation of the program," said a spokesman for Braun in a statement. "While Ryan has impeccable character and no previous history, unfortunately, because of the process we have to maintain confidentiality and are not able to discuss it any further, but we are confident he will ultimately be exonerated."

Braun, 28, was tested during the playoffs and notified of the positive result in late-October. Elevated levels of testosterone in Braun's system triggered the positive test, which prompted MLB to ask the testing agency to perform a second test. The second test determined that the testosterone was exogenous, meaning it was produced outside of Braun's body.
