Tejada was in discomfort in his right quadricep that sent him to the disabled list this afternoon, leaving the Mets without their starting shortstop for at least the next two weeks.
The club decided to de-activate him before facing the Phillies Monday night. Tejada, 22, reported lingering symptoms, which was enough to convince the team to shut him down.
“That is exactly why we did it,” manager Terry Collins said. “Because we didn’t want it to be more than two weeks. But we’re hopeful that’s all it will be.”
