Mets Rumors: Mets interested in starting pitchers on one year deals

Reunion in Queens?

Mets Rumors:

The Mets have been reported to have interest in starting pitchers Bartolo Colon, Freddy Garcia, Bruce Chen, John Lannan, Paul Maholm, Johan Santana, and Daisuke Matsuzaka..

The Mets have made there rounds to all of their agents to get a feel for what they are looking for. One rumor said the Mets were aggressively pursuing Arroyo with the Reds and Twins. Johan Santana has been mentioned to have eight teams interested with the Orioles and Mets to be the top suitors so far.

Sandy Alderson said this week that he is looking to add a starting pitcher, but he’s reluctant to give a multi-year deal.

Chen, Lannan, Santana and Maholm are expected to receive one-year offers this winter. However, while Colon was once being offered one year and around $7 million, he may end up with two years and close to $20 million.

Mets News and Notes: Malholm out - Wood In, Turner up - Burke Down, d'Arnaud to play minor league games, Lagares NL Player of the Week

Mets News and Notes:
NL Player of the Week

Atlanta Braves LHP Paul Maholm has been placed on the disabled list with a bruised left wrist and will not face the Mets on Thursday. Rookie southpaw Alex Wood (0-2, 2.45 ERA) instead will start the finale to the four-game series.

Reliever Greg Burke has been optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas to clear the roster spot for Justin Turner's activation from the disabled list.

Burke was selected for the demotion over rookie Gonzalez Germen, who has allowed only one hit and three walks while striking out six in 3 2/3 innings spanning four appearances. Germen twice has inherited bases-loaded situations and wriggled free.

Burke had allowed a combined six runs over his past two appearances.

Travis d'Arnaud has been cleared to begin playing in minor league games later this week, a team source told ESPNNewYork.com.

D'Arnaud received the go-ahead during a Monday exam in New York. He will run the bases Tuesday and Wednesday, then is scheduled to play in his first minor league game Thursday since suffering a broken left foot.

D'Arnaud, the organization's top catching prospect, suffered a fractured first metatarsal while catching with Triple-A Las Vegas on April 17.

He initially is expected to play in minor league games in Port St. Lucie before returning to the Pacific Coast League. D'Arnaud is projected to be a September call-up.
