Mets Miss out on Endy Chavez, signs with Orioles

The Orioles and Endy Chavez have agreed to a one-year, $1.5MM major league deal. The deal will also give the outfielder the chance to earn another $500K through performance bonuses.

The Mets showed interest in Chavez earlier this offseason and the Mariners and Rangers were both linked to the veteran recently. The 33-year-old hit .301/.323/.426 with five homers in 274 plate appearances for Texas in 2011.

Chavez has experience at all three outfield positions and played 66 games in center field last season. The veteran could be used to backup Adam Jones in center field or could be used in a platoon with Nolan Reimold in left field.

Mets Trade Rumors: Calling All Teams, Jose Reyes is available at the right price!

According to sources at the Seven train to Shea, the Mets have put the word out to teams that SS Jose Reyes is available and will look to trade Reyes during the Winter Meetings.

According to Matt Pignataro, The Red Sox, Orioles, and Rays have called to get a feel for the situation and trade talks will likely heat up during the winter, the sources believe.

Reyes, 27, hit .282 with 11 HR’s, 54 RBI’s, and 30 stolen bases in 133 games last season for the Mets.

Earlier in the month, the Mets picked up Reyes’s $11 MM option for next season.

It's hard for me to believe that Jose Reyes will get traded. Maybe Sandy knows something that has the Mets concerned and they would like to cash in now...
