Mets Rumors: Who Could the Mets get for Ike Davis in a trade?

Can Live with Aoki

Mets Rumors: Who Could the Mets get for Ike Davis in a Trade?

The Mets have the option to choose from Astros, Brewers, Orioles, Rays and Rockies.  The Mets know they need outfielders and shortstops

Here are some of the possibilities:

Astros:
RF - J.D. Martinez - Ranked forth on the depth chart, behind L.J. Hoes in RF... Martinez might be inclined to get moved. Who else would you take?

Brewers:
RF -  Norichika Aoki - Mets have been linked with his name, would solve the leadoff problem.. Like his OBP and ability to hit the gaps.. We will be saying oki- dokie. Maybe the Mets want SS Jean Segura, but that might be a stretch.. LF Khris Davis could be mentioned...

Orioles:
RF -  Nick Markakis - Mets would have to reach into their wallets a little bit and a free agent after 2014.  Other Mentions, SS J.J. Hardy.. Rumored to be offered to Cardinals but was turned down.

Rays:
RF/2B - Ben Zobrist - Might be a stretch but I like Him. SS Yunel Escobar has been rumored by insiders. Another name being floated around is OF Matthew Joyce, who has some power. CF Desmond Jennings would also solve the leadoff problem, but another stretch.

Mets Rumors: Mets and Brewers exploring trade for Ike Davis

Mets Rumors:

The Mets and Brewers discussed a trade that would've sent first baseman Ike Davis to Milwaukee, Andy Martino of the New York Daily News reports. No deal is likely at this time, however, as talks failed to generate much traction.

First base is a definite need for the Brewers, as free agent Corey Hart is drawing interest from several teams, including the Mets themselves. New York is known to be shopping both Davis and Lucas Duda but reportedly would prefer to deal Davis and give Duda a clear shot as an everyday first baseman.

The Brewers prefer to explore the free agent market rather than talk trades at this stage of the offseason, a source tells Martino. The source also notes that the Brewers aren't likely to trade outfielder Norichika Aoki, which isn't surprising given that Aoki is playing on a bargain $2MM contract for 2014.

Five or six teams have inquired about Davis and/or Lucas Duda, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.  Duda is considered by some AL teams to be a fit as a designated hitter, Carig tweets.

Mets Rumors: Big Changes Ahead for the Mets, Aoki, Peralta, Ethier or Kemp or Granderson..and more

Here comes Aoki for Ike

Mets Rumors:

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post,  the Mets are in for BIG changes in 2014.

He predicts that the Mets trade Ike Davis to Milwaukee for outfielder Norichika Aoki .. Get Free Agent Jhonny Peralta to man SS. And the Mets will  try to pry Andre Ethier or Matt Kemp from the Dodgers to man the outfield. Or even Curtis Granderson to fill the void if needed be. Of course there are backup plans too...

Other scoped things taken from his article:

The Mets are much less likely to chase after top free agents like Shin-Soo Choo and Jacoby Ellsbury than they are to add multiple pieces.

Ike Davis is very likely to be dealt, with Lucas Duda getting an opportunity to play first with Josh Satin. Sherman suggests that a Davis-for-Aoki swap could save the Mets money and create a better fit for New York.

It would save the Mets about $1.5 million in 2014 and provides a .350 on-base percentage leadoff man. That allows them to improve their depth by turning the on-base challenged Eric Young into a super sub/late-game runner/double-switch piece. Aoki's numbers are good...

He says the Mets are going to use next week’s GM Meetings to better gauge Davis’ market.

Jhonny Peralta is definitely on the club's radar, and they could try to sign him early in order to set the tone for the offseason.

Sherman says they are not scared off by his Biogenesis ties. They know he has limited range. But they need offense at the position: Their shortstops had an MLB-low three homers and an NL-low .561 OPS.

If not Peralta, The Sherman suggests the Mets will pursue the trade market that could include the Indians’ Asdrubal Cabrera, the White Sox’s Alexei Ramirez, the Athletics’ Jed Lowrie and — depending on who they go with as their starter — the Diamondbacks’ Didi Gregorius or Chris Owings could be other possiblities..

Noah Syndergaard and Zack Wheeler may well be off limits, the Mets could deal from their other pitching depth, including Rafael Montero.  The Mets could also add Gabriel Ynoa to the mix..

Sherman floats that Terry Collins had Matt Kemp in the Dodgers’ minor leagues and loves him. But his multiple injuries, remaining salary (six years at $128 million) and the fact Los Angeles will still expect a big return makes him a hard buy. The Dodgers might sell low on Ethier to get out of as much of the four years at $71.5 million left as possible. Or the Mets could simply try to buy Curtis Granderson.
