Are the Mets really still in it?  As much as I love this team, they really have their backs to the wall. The Mets are 8 back in the wild card standings and according to coolstandings.com, they have a  4.1 % chance to make the play-offs.

The only way the Mets can make a push is if they start another giant winning streak and Braves fall apart. The Braves will be in Citi-Field this weekend, the Mets need to put up and shut up and sweep them in order to make things interesting.

Looking at the Games ahead:

2011 Remaining Schedule
vs. Team PCT H A Tot
Philadelphia .645 3 3 6
Atlanta .571 6 3 9
Milwaukee .554 3 0 3
Arizona .550 0 3 3

Washington .482 4 3 7
San Diego .423 4 3 7
ChiCubs .409 3 0 3
TOTAL .518 31 21 52

The Mets have 52 games left on the schedule (including tonight). Out of the remaining games the Mets still must face the Phillies 6 times and the Braves 9 times. The Mets also have to face the Brewers (3), Cards (3), and Diamondbacks (3) who are still in the play-off hunt as well.

The rest of the schedule will include 28 games against teams who are at .500 or under it.

NL Wild Card Alert: Braves land CF Michael Bourn from Astros

Braves GM made a splash today by acquiring center fielder Michael Bourn and cash from the Astros for center fielder Jordan Schafer, southpaw Double-A starter Brett Oberholtzer, righty Double-A starter Paul Clemens, and righty Triple-A reliever Juan Abreu. The Astros announced the deal via press release.

None of the three pitchers are top 50 prospects, but they did rank ninth, 26th, and 27th respectively for the Braves on Baseball America's preseason rankings, and the team has a highly-regarded farm system. Oberholtzer, 22, ranked ninth and is seen as a potential third or fourth starter in the big leagues. Clemens and Abreu both have big upside and impressive fastballs.

Braves flirted with the idea of making a trade for Carlos Beltran , but they were not serious about trading top prospects for him.

The Astros on the other hand have one of the worst minor-league organizations in terms of depth and this could help replenish their system

Wild Card Standings - Mets have to take 2 out of three to keep pace

National League Wild Card Standings
NL  Wild Card Teams W L GB Left
 Atlanta Braves 53 36 -- 73
 Arizona Diamondbacks 48 41 5.0 73
 St. Louis Cardinals 47 42 6.0 73
 Milwaukee Brewers 47 42 6.0 73
 Pittsburgh Pirates 45 42 7.0 75
 New York Mets 45 43 7.5 74
 Washington Nationals 45 44 8.0 73
 Cincinnati Reds 44 45 9.0 73
 Colorado Rockies 41 47 11.5 74
 Florida Marlins 40 48 12.5 74
 San Diego Padres 40 49 13.0 73
 Los Angeles Dodgers 38 51 15.0 73
 Chicago Cubs 36 53 17.0 73
 Houston Astros 30 59 23.0 73

While the Braves face the Phillies, The Mets have to take on the World Champion Giants. It will be no easy task, but the Mets could potentially gain some ground on the Braves with the Phillies actually helping us out for a change. The Braves will have to face Roy Halladay tonight and tomorrow the Mets will have to face Mr.Lincecum. The Mets can help themselves tonight if they pick up a win tonight and stay pace for the NL Wild Card.   It would help even more to take the series and win 2 out of  3.
