Jose Reyes has not resumed workout activities since landing on the disabled list last week with a strained left hamstring, making it highly unlikely the shortstop will return when eligible on Aug. 23.
Though manager Terry Collins expects his shortstop to begin working out soon, it will take some time before Reyes can participate in full baseball activities and work back into game shape. When he strained a different part of the same hamstring earlier this season, he missed close to three weeks.
Reyes, who did not accompany the Mets on their West Coast road trip, was batting .336 prior to his injury. He still leads the National League in batting average, triples and runs scored, while ranking second in hits and stolen bases. As long as Reyes returns by September, he should still amass more than enough at-bats to qualify for the batting title.

After Carlos Beltran's departure to join his new team, the San Francisco Giants, Willie Harris tried to rally the troops before last nights game. He said to anyone in earshot while in the training room,
"Lets make the playoffs and let's beat Carlos Beltran in the playoffs."When asked about his comments Harris told the NY Post,
"I mean, how cool would that be?" Harris said after the Mets beat the Reds 8-2 at Great American Ball Park. "We trade our best hitter and then we send him home in the playoffs."The Mets are one win closer to Harris' request after defeating the Reds with the help of Mike Pelfrey who seemed to have toned down his criticism of the Mets front office from earlier this week.
"Obviously we're a better team with Carlos Beltran," he said. "But that doesn't mean that Lucas Duda or Willie Harris or Scott Hairston on the bench can't step up. [The trade] is unfortunate, but we're all professionals and we're going to continue to go out there and play and go out there and win."Pelfrey pitched a complete game allowing only 2 earned runs and 7 hits.

Matt Harrison threw seven strong innings Friday, and Adrian Beltre and the Texas Rangers offense did the rest in an 8-1 victory over the New York Mets.
Harrison (6-6) snapped a two-decision losing streak, giving up one run on seven hits and a walk while striking out four.
Beltre hit a two-run homer to cap a three-run first inning and added a pair of doubles for the Rangers, who have won five of their last seven games. Michael Young and Josh Hamilton also hit two-run homers in the victory.
"I think that right now we are a better team than we were a few weeks ago," said Young. "We're a better team then we were a month ago and if we can keep that up we'll be in the hunt."
Ruben Tejada hit an RBI single in the fifth inning for New York, which started a six-game road trip against the AL with its fifth loss in eight games.
Before the game started, Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki took the mound to throw out the ceremonial first pitch 12 days after leading Dallas to its first-ever NBA title and winning the Finals MVP award.
Nowitzki, sporting a Rangers hat and jersey, and still wearing a small splint on his injured left middle finger, worked from the stretch and gunned a pitch that nearly sailed over the catcher.
He pulled his right sleeve up and flexed his biceps as he walked off the mound, waving to the receptive crowd.
It was, perhaps, a bit of good luck for the Rangers.

Carlos Beltran went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and three RBI to back Mike Pelfrey's complete game, as the New York Mets handled the Angels, 6-1, in the second test of a three-game inter-league series.
Justin Turner and Jason Bay both had an RBI and run scored for the Mets, who bounced back from a 4-3 loss in the opener of this set on Friday.
Pelfrey (4-5) gave up just one run on five hits to pick up his first complete game of the season. He also struck out five and did not issue a walk.
Mark Trumbo hit a solo homer for the Angels, who have the best inter-league road mark all-time (71-55).
Dan Haren (6-5) allowed six runs on seven hits over four-plus frames to suffer the loss.

|Milwaukee Brewers Career statistics vs. Mike Pelfrey|
Hey Mike has had his ups and downs this year . Most of the time when I do these batter vs pitcher write-ups, most teams in the NL have Mr. Pelfrey's number. I will give you exception number one, the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers are only hitting .190 (12 for 63) career off Big Pelf, but the Brewers only see the Mets a limited amount of time per season. The Prince and Ryan Braun are hitting .300 (3 for 10) combined off Pelfrey, imagine if they seen each other more of the time.
Let's see if Mike has it in him to pitch smart in Milwaukee. It's going to be a challenge now that the Mets took the 1st game and the Brewers would like to even the series... LGM

|New York Yankees Career statistics vs. Mike Pelfrey|
Pelfrey has pitched good in May, and his last 2 starts have been better most of previous. The Mets need Pelfrey to pitch smart and work his sinker into his game plan. Pelfrey has to watch his pitches against A-Rod , Martin, Gardner, Swisher, who are in his hot zone. The rest of the team including Derek Jeter has had it's problems with MP.
The Yanks are hitting a even .300 against Pelfrey over his career, now we just have to wait and see which Pelfrey comes to Yankee Stadium. Will the real Mike Pelfrey please stand...

Despite an 11th inning loss in gloomy weather last night Mets starting pitchers Mike Pelfrey and Chris Capuano, took time out of their day to visit students at P.S 184 in Brooklyn. The pair played basketball and signed autographs for the students while encouraging them to strive in school.
