NY Daily News, Bobby Parnell has emerged as a very strong front runner to earn a one of the final spots in the Mets bullpen, and the team sees the only true competition between relievers as Miguel Batista versus D.J. Carrasco —with Batista holding an advantage, and Carrasco a candidate to be traded, according to two Mets officials.
Parnell has one remaining minor league option, so the Mets could easily send him to Triple-A. But according to one of the officials, “Bobby would really have to mess up (during spring training) to not make it. He has big-league stuff.”
Carrasco is owed $1.2 million in 2012, in the second season of a two-year contract. The right-hander posted a 6.02 ERA last season, but the Mets, hoping that 2012 was an aberration, decided to bring him to camp this year.
