Roster Moves: Acosta, Beato, Harvey, Duda?

In a late-night maneuver, the Mets announced Manny Acosta will join the Mets and Pedro Beato will go down to Buffalo AAA.

But that means the Mets still need to clear room for Harvey's activation Tuesday. There have been strong indications Lucas Duda could be that casualty.

Acosta tossed two scoreless innings Monday night for Buffalo against Charlotte. In seven weeks in Triple-A, he had a 2.28 ERA in 17 appearances spanning 28 innings.

Roster Moves: Nieuwenhuis, Hefner, Hampson, Beato

Mets Roster Moves:

Jeremy Hefner was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo. Pedro Beato will join the Mets on Thursday.

Beato is 3-2 with a 1.12 ERA in 16 relief appearances with Buffalo this season. He has allowed 15 hits and walked nine (three intentionally) while striking out 18 in 24 innings.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis avoided landing on the disabled list before Wednesday's game despite a right hand injury, but Jordany Valdespin officially was promoted anyway.

Valdespin took the roster spot of left-hander Justin Hampson, who was designated for assignment. The Mets apparently will go with six relievers, and only one lefty, in the bullpen for the remainder of the first half.

Roster Moves: Bay, Beato, Young, Satin

According to ESPN NY's Adam Rubin, Jason Bay and Pedro Beato both have been activated from the disabled list for Wednesday's game against the Nats.

The Mets placed Chris Young on paternity leave to temporarily free one roster spot between his starts. Josh Satin also has been designated for assignment to clear room.

Satin now will be exposed to waivers and must clear in order to be sent to Triple-A Buffalo. Beato needed that 40-man roster spot, since he did not count against it while on the 60-day DL.

Beato began the season on the DL with shoulder discomfort suffered during spring training. He made nine rehab-assignment appearances, the final six with Buffalo. Overall, he allowed one run on seven hits and five walks while striking out 10 in 13 innings.

Young's wife Liz gave birth to the couple's third child, Grant Christopher, at 9:45 this morning. He weighed 9 pounds, 5 ounces.

Roster Moves: Quintanilla, Schwinden, Turner, Acosta

The Mets will promote Omar Quintanilla and Chris Schwinden for Tuesday's game, with Quintanilla -- a former Rockie and Ranger -- expected to start at shortstop.

To clear roster room, the Mets are expected to designate Acosta (11.86 ERA) for assignment and place Turner on the disabled list.

Quintanilla fouled a ball off a foot Sunday, but played Monday for Triple-A Buffalo without issue. He was hitting .282 with six homers and 27 RBIs in 156 at-bats with the Bisons.

Schwinden tossed 99 pitches for Buffalo on Sunday, but presumably would be asked to step in if Hefner has a short outing today in his second major league start.

Mets Designate Two For Assignment

Scott Hairston signing autographs for his fans...Image via Wikipedia
The Mets have DFA'ed both Tobi Stoner and Jason Pridie to make room for Chris Young and Scott Hairston on the 40-man roster.

They will be on the waiver wire for the next ten days and the Mets could always look to trade them .It is likely that neither of these players will be claimed since they both have very little major league experience.

Both Stoner and Pridie will likely be brought to Spring Training to try to regain their spots on the 40-man roster if they clear waviers and stay with the Mets.
