The New York Mets hire Paul DePodesta as vice president of player development and scouting

Continuing to bolster their front office with experienced baseball-operations staff members, the Mets announced on Monday that they have hired former Dodgers general manager Paul DePodesta as vice president of player development and scouting.

"Paul has one of the top analytical minds in the game and also has a strong background in more traditional aspects of player development and amateur scouting," Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said in a statement. "He will help establish direction, standards and continuity in all areas of our player development domestically and internationally."

DePodesta, 37, most recently worked as an executive vice president for the Padres. He is most famous for his days as Billy Beane's protégé in the front office of the Athletics, whose success last decade ultimately landed DePodesta the GM job in Los Angeles. DePodesta also worked in Oakland alongside former Blue Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi, whom Alderson hired to his staff last week.
