Rumor Mill: Jack Wilson, Joel Zumaya, Pudge Rodriguez

The Mets remain in regular contact with free agent shortstop Jack Wilson, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter).

A scout tells Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports that just about every team in baseball saw free agent right-hander Joel Zumaya throw in Houston yesterday (Twitter link).

The Astros and Rays are possibilities for Ivan Rodriguez, according to Heyman (on Twitter). Though the Mets have discussed Rodriguez, they’re leaning toward relying on Mike Nickeas as their backup to starter Josh Thole.

Mets have expressed Interest in SS Jack Wilson

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN NY, The Mets, along with the Braves and Dodgers, are among six teams to show interest in infielder Jack Wilson.

Assuming Jose Reyes departs, the Mets will need to have a player on the bench capable of spelling Ruben Tejada at shortstop, and no one currently on the roster fits that profile.

The righty-hitting Wilson also played 45 games at second base last season with Seattle, perhaps allowing him to be a complement/defensive replacement for lefty-hitting Daniel Murphy.
