Mets Name Director of Amateur Scouting

The Mets on Thursday named Tommy Tanous as their director of amateur scouting.

Tanous, 42, who worked this season as a professional scout for the Mets, replaces Chad MacDonald, who will join the San Diego Padres as a vice president and assistant general manager of player personnel.

Tanous was a national cross-checker for the Toronto Blue Jays from 2004 to 2010. Before that, he was a scout for the Texas Rangers and the Milwaukee Brewers. He will work closely with Paul DePodesta, an assistant general manager, to oversee the Mets’ activities for the draft.
