MLB Rumors: Detroit Tigers could deal for SS Nick Franklin, Darwin Barney, or Jimmy Rollins..? No Drew

MLB Rumors:

The Detroit Tigers suddenly have a hole in their infield in the wake of the Jose Iglesias injury, and need a shortstop. Many people around baseball speculated the defending AL Central champion Tigers would pursue free agent Stephen Drew. However, it appears general manager Dave Dombrowski has put the axe on any possible Drew signing.

According to Lynn Henning of The Detroit News, the Tigers have no interest in signing Drew.
Dombrowski suggested the Tigers could look at an internal candidate to replace Iglesias, prospects Danny Worth and Hernan Perez are two possibilities.

Henning then speculated that the Tigers could look on the trade block to fill the need at shortstop. Nick Franklin, of the Mariners, and Darwin Barney, of the Cubs are two players Henning mentioned as possible acquisitions.

Another player, a bit off the radar that Henning mentioned: Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins. However, Henning prefaced the statement by making it clear the Tigers and Rollins won’t be a match unless the Phillies eat a significant portion of Rollins’ contract (he has the potential to earn $33 million through 2016.)

The New York Mets, Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees also have reported some interest...

Gio Gonzalez Update: Tigers now on the "outskirts" to landing him

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports that the Tigers are on the "outskirts" of the pursuit of the Athletics' Gio Gonzalez and are "not real upbeat about their chances."

It's hard to believe if the Tigers were willing to part with Jacob Turner that they wouldn't at least be in the thick of things, so perhaps they're not willing to give up Turner after all.

With the number of teams interested -- the Mets, Mariners, Marlins, Reds, Red Sox, Rangers and Nationals have all showed degrees of interest -- Gonzalez seems likely to be moved this winter.

Game 4 Pitcher and Mets Fan Tries To Eliminate Yankees

Rick Porcello
West Orange NJ's own Rick Porcello doesn't know how it happened. His parents were Yankees fans. They would even let him skip one day of school per year to go to the old Yankee Stadium, but for some reason he became a Mets fan.
"I guess when I was pretty much old enough to start following baseball and really be in touch with the players was right around the 2000 [Mets] team and they went to the World Series," the 22-year-old Porcello said. "I just rooted for them. I always liked the fact that they were kind of more of an underdog in New York."
Porcello is the favorite against A.J. Burnett. There is an assumption that with Burnett on the mound, the Yankees don't have a shot. But Porcello has not been great. There is a reason he is the Tigers' fourth-starter. He was 14-9, but his ERA was 4.75. His home ERA was 5.64.

"I have high expectations for myself and I don't think it was nearly as well as I'm capable of pitching over the course of an entire year," Porcello said.
Porcello said his parents are no longer Yankees fans. Well, his mom still likes one player.
"Mom loves Derek Jeter," Porcello said. "[She] might like him more than me."

I know I will be rooting for the Tigers (Who I want to go All the way) a little more now that Mr. Porcello is a Orange and Blue Wearing Mets Fan on the inside... Go Tigers!!
