Carrasco Called Up, Thayer sent down


The New York Mets recalled pitcher D.J. Carrasco from Triple-A Buffalo while optioning hurler Dale Thayer to the minors.

Carrasco had a 2-3 record with a 3.47 ERA in nine games with Buffalo. Mets manager Terry Collins said Sunday that Carrasco would serve primarily as the team's long reliever.

Carrasco, 34, is 0-1 with a 5.91 ERA in eight appearances with the Mets this season. He was demoted in late-April following a stretch of rough outings.

Thayer went 0-1 in four games with a 4.50 ERA.

Mets add three more players


The Mets have signed Casey Fossum to a minor league deal. Add him to the list of left-handed relievers in the organzation.

Fossum, 33, pitched in Japan last season. He made three appearances at the major league level for the Mets in 2009.

The Mets have outfielder Lorenzo Scott to a minor league deal, according to an organization source.

Scott, 28, hit a combined .270 with eight homers and 40 RBIs in 318 at-bats at three levels, but primarily with Double-A Jacksonville. He formerly was a linebacker at Ball State University.

The Mets have signed right-hander Dale Thayer to a minor league contract, according to Foxsports.com. He will not receive an invite to major league camp.

Thayer, 30, has appeared in 12 games in relief for the Tampa Bay Rays over the past two seasons, compiling a 7.47 ERA.

Thayer went 4-1 with a 3.45 ERA in 46 relief appearances for Triple-A Durham last season.
