The Mets have signed right-handed pitcher D.J. Mitchell to a minor league contract.
Mitchell, 25, made four relief appearances for the Yankees last season, but has worked as a starting pitcher in the minor leagues.
He was traded to the Seattle Mariners last July 23 in the deal that brought Ichiro Suzuki to the Bronx.
Mitchell made one start for Triple-A Tacoma this season before being designated for assignment to open a 40-man roster spot for Endy Chavez with the Mariners. After clearing waivers, he was granted free agency on April 13 at his request. He allowed three runs in four innings in the lone Pacific Coast League appearance.
Mitchell had a 2.96 ERA in eight starts with Tacoma last season after the trade.
