Mets Rumors: Who's on first in 2014?

Mets Rumors:

One of the many decisions the Mets have to make on their 2014 roster, is who is going to play first base?

The Mets have internal options at 1B in Lucas Duda and Ike Davis, but time may be running out for both. They also can move Daniel Murphy to first base, which would probably be the last resort. As for Duda or Davis, they are strong internal preferences. An ESPNNewYork.com survey found seven of nine scouts preferred Duda over Davis.

Mets insiders say in reports that they can go in another direction by going after a free agent first basemen or via the trade market. The Mets can try and use either Ike Davis, Lucas Duda, or Daniel Murphy as Trade Chips this off-season. If they trade Murphy (which I'm not happy with), the Mets can use Eric Young Jr. at 2b or they can even give prospect Wilmer Flores a shot over there. Of Course, Murphy in a trade would have to demand either a outfielder or shortstop that the Mets could use. So if the Mets don't get what they want, they would simply keep Murphy.

"We're at a point where we need to try to make a decision," Alderson said on WFAN. "Another factor frankly will be the trade market. What's the market for a first baseman with potential and power and the potential to be better? Ike is not that old. Any way we're getting to the point where we need to make a decision on those two guys or going in a different direction entirely."
