Mets Minor League Roundup 8/17: Newly Acquired Snider Has Three Hits In Vegas Win


Mets AAA - Las Vegas 6, Fresno 0: Phillip Evans homered and singled as the Las Vegas 51s beat the Fresno Grizzlies 6-0 on Thursday. Travis Snider doubled and singled twice for Las Vegas. Up 1-0 in the seventh, Las Vegas added to its lead when Evans hit a solo home run. The 51s later added three runs in the eighth and one in the ninth. In the eighth, Cody Decker drove in two runs and Jayce Boyd drove in one, while Snider hit an RBI double in the ninth. Beck Wheeler (4-5) got the win with two innings of scoreless, three-hit relief while Fresno starter David Martinez (6-11) took the loss in the Pacific Coast League game. The Grizzlies were held off the scoreboard for the third time this season, while the 51s' staff recorded their fifth shutout of the year. BOX

Mets A (ADV) - St. Lucie 6, Clearwater 4: Wuilmer Becerra hit an RBI single in the top of the 10th inning to help lead the St. Lucie Mets to a 6-4 win over the Clearwater Threshers on Thursday. Peter Alonso scored the go-ahead run on the single after he reached base on a walk, advanced to second on a single by Jhoan Urena and then went to third on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, St. Lucie added an insurance run when Becerra scored on a single by J.C. Rodriguez. After Clearwater's Austin Bossart hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth, St. Lucie tied the game 4-4 in the next half-inning when Michael Paez scored on a wild pitch. Becerra doubled and singled twice, driving in a run and also scoring one in the win. Urena homered and singled, driving in three runs. Austin McGeorge (2-2) got the win in relief while Seth McGarry (1-2) took the loss in the Florida State League game. Gerson Bautista retired the side in order for his second save of the season. With the win, St. Lucie improved to 7-3 against Clearwater this season. BOX



Mets A - Columbia 5, Augusta 0: Andres Gimenez singled three times, and Jose Carlos Medina allowed just two hits over six innings as the Columbia Fireflies topped the Augusta GreenJackets 5-0 on Thursday. The Fireflies swept the three-game series with the win. Medina struck out five and walked four. All five runs came in the eighth inning. Columbia got on the board first when Dan Rizzie scored on a single by Jay Jabs. The Fireflies added to their lead when J.J. Franco hit a three-run double and then scored on a single by Dash Winningham. Matt Pobereyko (2-1) got the win with two innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Jose Morel (2-2) took the loss in the South Atlantic League game. For the GreenJackets, Kelvin Beltre doubled and singled, also stealing a base. Augusta was blanked for the 12th time this season, while the Columbia staff recorded its 16th shutout of the year. BOX

Mets A (SS) - Aberdeen 5, Brooklyn 0: Luke Ringhofer doubled and singled, and Michael Baumann allowed just two hits over five innings as the Aberdeen IronBirds defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones 5-0 on Thursday. Baumann (2-1) struck out seven and walked one to pick up the win. Up 1-0 in the fifth, Aberdeen extended its lead when Jaylen Ferguson hit an RBI single, bringing home Ringhofer. The IronBirds later added two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh. In the sixth, Ringhofer hit an RBI single, while T.J. Nichting hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Kirvin Moesquit in the seventh. Chris Viall (0-1) went four innings, allowing one run and two hits while striking out four in the New York-Penn League game. Nick Vespi pitched four scoreless innings for his second save of the season. Jose Miguel Medina reached base three times for the Cyclones. Brooklyn was held scoreless for the fourth time this season, while the Aberdeen staff recorded its fourth shutout of the year. Aberdeen improved to 9-2 against Brooklyn this season. BOX
