Mets Minor League Roundup 8/12: El Paso Edges Vegas 4-3


Mets AAA - El Paso 4, Las Vegas 3: Franchy Cordero hit a walk-off single with two outs in the ninth inning, as the El Paso Chihuahuas beat the Las Vegas 51s 4-3 on Saturday. Nick Buss scored the game-winning run after he hit a single with two outs, advanced to second on an error and then went to third on a walk by Chase d'Arnaud. The single by Cordero capped an improbable comeback for the Chihuahuas, who scored three runs in the inning for the win. Ryan Schimpf hit a solo home run earlier in the inning to help set the stage for the game-winning score. The Chihuahuas cut the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the eighth when Cordero hit an RBI triple, bringing home Travis Jankowski. Kevin Quackenbush (3-1) got the win with a scoreless inning in relief while Jamie Callahan (1-1) took the loss in the Pacific Coast League game. BOX

Mets AA - Akron 1, Binghamton 0: Luis Lugo allowed just two hits over 6 1/3 innings, leading the Akron RubberDucks over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies in a 1-0 win on Saturday. Lugo (8-6) struck out three and walked four to get the win. The game's only run was scored in the bottom of the fourth inning. After leading off the inning with a single, Bobby Bradley advanced to third on a double by Eric Haase and then scored on a groundout. Mickey Jannis (7-6) went five innings, allowing one run and five hits in the Eastern League game. He also struck out four and walked one. Jordan Milbrath pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings for his second save of the season. The Rumble Ponies were held off the scoreboard for the seventh time this season, while the RubberDucks' staff recorded their sixth shutout of the year. BOX

Mets A (ADV) - Tampa 5, St. Lucie 1: Tim Lynch singled three times as the Tampa Yankees defeated the St. Lucie Mets 5-1 on Saturday. Tampa got on the board first in the third inning when it scored three runs, including a single by Chris Gittens that scored Hoy Jun Park. The Yankees later tacked on a run in both the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth, Park scored on a ground out, while Lynch hit an RBI single in the sixth. Tampa starter Erik Swanson (6-2) picked up the win after scattering six hits over six scoreless innings. Opposing starter Yeizo Campos (0-1) took the loss in the Florida State League game after allowing four runs and eight hits over five innings. For the Mets, Anthony Dimino doubled and singled twice. With the win, Tampa improved to 5-2 against St. Lucie this season. BOX



Mets A - Hickory 3, Columbia 1: Leody Taveras scored on a forceout in the first inning, leading the Hickory Crawdads to a 3-1 win over the Columbia Fireflies on Saturday. C.D. Pelham got Jay Jabs to ground out with a runner on second to end the game for his ninth save of the season. Taveras scored on the forceout in the first to give the Crawdads a 1-0 lead after he reached base on a walk and advanced to third on a single by Andretty Cordero. After Hickory added two runs, the Fireflies cut into the deficit in the fifth inning when Jabs hit a solo home run. Hickory right-hander Edgar Arredondo (6-5) picked up the win after allowing one run on just four hits over 5 1/3 innings. Opposing starter Martin Anderson (0-2) took the loss in the South Atlantic League game after allowing three runs and seven hits over 5 2/3 innings. With the win, Hickory improved to 8-2 against Columbia this season. BOX

Mets A (SS) - Hudson Valley 4, Brooklyn 1: Bill Pujols hit a run-scoring double in the sixth inning, leading the Hudson Valley Renegades to a 4-1 win over the Brooklyn Cyclones on Friday. Oscar Rojas scored on the play to give the Renegades a 2-1 lead after he reached base with two outs on a walk. The Renegades extended their lead in the eighth when Deion Tansel hit a two-run single. Eduard Rosillo (2-2) got the win with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Conner O'Neil (0-2) took the loss in the New York-Penn League game. Zack Mozingo recorded his fifth save of the season. Quinn Brodey tripled and singled for the Cyclones. With the win, Hudson Valley remains undefeated (4-0) against Brooklyn this season. BOX

Mets A (SS) - Hudson Valley 6, Brooklyn 2: Vidal Brujan had two hits and scored two runs, and Tobias Myers struck out 10 over 5 2/3 innings as the Hudson Valley Renegades topped the Brooklyn Cyclones 6-2 on Saturday. Myers (3-2) picked up the win after he allowed two runs and two hits. With the game tied 1-1, the Renegades took the lead for good in the second inning when Jean Ramirez singled to bring home Angel Perez. The Renegades later added two runs in both the third and fourth innings. In the third, Taylor Walls and Perez both drove in a run, while Deion Tansel hit a two-run home run in the fourth. Luis De Los Santos (0-4) went three innings, allowing five runs and six hits in the New York-Penn League game. He also struck out two and walked one. Hudson Valley remains undefeated against Brooklyn this season at 5-0. BOX
