Mets Minor League Roundup 5/18: Columbia Scores On a Wild Pitch To Win In 10 Innings


Mets AAA - Iowa 6, Las Vegas 5: Stephen Bruno hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, driving in Victor Caratini with the go-ahead run, as the Iowa Cubs beat the Las Vegas 51s 6-5 on Thursday. Caratini scored after he hit into a forceout to score a run and advanced to third on an error. The sacrifice fly capped a four-run inning for the Cubs that started when Ozzie Martinez hit a single, scoring John Andreoli to cut the Las Vegas lead to 5-3. Justin Grimm got Xorge Carrillo to ground out with runners on first and third to end the game for his second save of the season. After Iowa put up two runs in the first inning, Las Vegas went up 5-2 behind two RBI each from Amed Rosario and Carrillo. Mark Zagunis singled twice, scoring two runs in the win. Felix Pena (1-0) got the win in relief while Alberto Baldonado (0-1) took the loss in the Pacific Coast League game. Several 51s chipped in at the plate, as five players had at least two hits. Rosario homered and tripled, scoring a pair of runs while also driving home a couple. The 51s failed to capitalize on some good scoring chances, leaving 12 runners on base in the loss. BOX

Mets AA - Binghamton 7, Altoona 5: David Thompson hit a three-run home run in the second inning, and L.J. Mazzilli tripled and singled as the Binghamton Rumble Ponies beat the Altoona Curve 7-5 on Thursday. Corey Taylor got Jerrick Suiter to fly out with a runner on first to end the game for his second save of the season. The home run by Thompson scored Matt Oberste and Kevin Kaczmarski to give the Rumble Ponies a 3-1 lead. Trailing 5-2, the Curve tied the game in the sixth inning when Edwin Espinal hit a solo home run and Elvis Escobar hit a two-run single. The Rumble Ponies took the lead for good in the seventh when Tomas Nido scored on a fly out. Starter P.J. Conlon (4-2) got the win while Tate Scioneaux (4-1) took the loss in relief in the Eastern League game. Jordan Luplow homered and singled, scoring two runs for the Curve. BOX



Mets A (ADV) - Lakeland 2, St. Lucie 1: Matt Hall tossed six scoreless innings, leading the Lakeland Flying Tigers over the St. Lucie Mets in a 2-1 win on Thursday. Gerson Moreno struck Dale Burdick out with a runner on second to end the game for his fifth save of the season. Hall allowed four hits while striking out four and walking two. St. Lucie tied the game 1-1 in the seventh after Burdick hit an RBI double, driving in Wuilmer Becerra. The Flying Tigers grabbed the lead in the eighth inning when Wade Hinkle hit an RBI single, driving in Ross Kivett. Bryan Garcia (1-0) got the win with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless, two-hit relief while Cameron Griffin (0-2) took the loss in the Florida State League game. For the Mets, Burdick doubled and singled. Mets A - Columbia 3, Virgina 2: Desmond Lindsay scored the winning run on a wild pitch with one out in the 10th inning, as the Columbia Fireflies defeated the West Virginia Power 3-2 on Thursday. After the Power scored two runs in the top of the eighth, Columbia tied the game 2-2 in the ninth when Dash Winningham hit an RBI single, driving in Michael Paez. Columbia starter Merandy Gonzalez went seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits while striking out four and walking one. Adonis Uceta (2-0) got the win in relief while Jordan Jess (0-2) took the loss in the South Atlantic League game. BOX
