Review: Out Of The Park 18 - A True Baseball Simulation

Review: Out Of The Park 18 - A True Baseball Simulation

Thanks to Out of the Park Developments, I received a beta copy of the new Out Of The Park 18. Let me first off to say this is a true baseball simulation for anyone who desires to take full control of any Major League baseball team including managerial and GM duties. The sim like in most years has vastly improved including a 3D mode which allows you to visually watch the game unfold now with much-improved stadium backdrops. The game comes with all the 2017 MLB team's rosters, minor leagues with real players. Me being a Mets fan, I wanted to see how much detail there was in the farm system. There were top prospects like Amed Rosario, Dominic Smith (to name a few) for you to watch grow and promote. The GM aspect of the game gives you a chance to make real trades and not bogus one-sided trades. Again, as a Mets fan, I put on my GM cap and tried to play the role of Sandy Alderson. I wanted to see the value of Jay Bruce and let me tell you it gave me a real perspective of what's out there to pick from - not much (LOL). Also if you try to trade for a big time bat the computer AI asks for real life value. Players like Noah Syndergaard, Jacob deGrom and even in some cases, Matt Harvey gets asked for.  It is up to you to make difficult decisions and the make the team what you want to be. Want to sign that big free agent? Make sure you have the resources to do so. The team page will keep you informed on how much spending you have allocated throughout the season and off-season. There are so many things for you to do, it will keep you busy throughout the baseball season and beyond.

In manager mode, I played an exhibition game between the 2017 Mets and Yankees. I pitched Noah Syndergaard against the Yankees where he struck out 13 batters in 8 innings of play. Gary Sanchez, the Yankees prospect catcher hit a homer off Syndergaard in the first to command a 2-0 lead. The Yankees started Michael Pineda and he pitched 7 innings of baseball. To make the story short, the game remained tied 3-3 through 9 innings, so we went into extra frames. In the top of the 10th Jose Reyes belted a homer to right off Dellin Betances to make it 4-3 and the Mets sealed the deal with Jeurys Familia to complete the save and the victory.  I was a truly fun experience and I expect to play a complete season to see where I can take the Mets.

Markus Heinsohn and his programming team have added so many new features to OOTP 18 including a challenge mode, online play, highlight reels, new tournament modes that are fully customizable. They added the Negro Leagues rosters, redesigned the injury system, redesigned the promotion system and salary system. They have added many CBA rule changes like in real life. You can set your lineups for 7-days and now supports double headers. They have improved the player moral/team chemistry system, Player creation, and development system. They even improved the game recaps, enhanced the play by play text and league news reports.

This game just does not cover only the 2017 MLB season rosters but it also has teams going back as far as 1917 (even includes the minor league systems if there were any). You can relive the teams of yesteryear or make a league with any teams of the past and see who comes out on top. This is a must have for any hardcore baseball fan or historian.

If you would like more information on how to purchase your copy of the complete baseball simulation on the market please click here. The game will be released on March 24th, but you can Pre-Order your copy now! The game supports PC and Mac and is just $35.99.
