Well, the Winter Meetings are here!

The New York Mets have made the Yoenis Cespedes deal a reality and struck quickly to settle the speculation and speed up the process for other needs at the winter meetings.

The Mets now have a plan a place to settle the rest of the log jam in the outfield and reports from Marc Carig of Newsday say the team is ready to deal Jay Bruce and/or Curtis Granderson. The speculation is that the Mets are too move fast and could receive offers for both outfielders. If the Mets were to trade both Granderson and Bruce it would leave them with flexibility in their payroll ($28 Million) and maybe a precursor to other moves. The Giants and Blue Jays have been reported looking for a left-handed bat in their lineup. The Mets could satisfy themselves maybe with a bigger bat in the middle of their lineup such as a free agent like Jose Bautista. Of course, this is pure speculation, but with Jose Reyes on the roster, it could lead to a reunion with the two players from their time in Toronto. If the Mets don't go bigger the outfield could look like Cespedes in left, Juan Lagares/Michael Conforto in center, Brandon Nimmo in right. We will have to wait and see what the Mets get back for either or both outfielders. According to multiple reports, the Mets will NOT trade Michael Conforto in any deal and is deemed untouchable.

The Mets avoided arbitration to bring back catcher Rene Rivera worth $1.75 Million. Rivera not a big time catcher with the bat, but did help with his defensive prowess behind the plate backing up both Kevin Plawecki and Travis d'Arnaud. To the dislike of many, d'Arnaud and Plawecki will battle for starting catcher priveledges with newly acquired third base coach Glenn Sherlock trying to mend their defensive skills behind the plate.

The Mets are interested in bolstering the bullpen with Jeurys Familia ready to get some type of suspension due to domestic abuse altercation. Addison Reed will fill the bill in the closers spot in Familia's absence. The Mets would like to get not one lefty for the bullpen , but two according to reports. The Mets have an interest in re-signing Jerry Blevins, but his desire to get a multi-year deal might price them out. The Mets could look to free agents Boone Logan or J.P. Howell to fill their needs or even hit a homer with Aroldis Chapman, but that's a long shot!

Speaking of the National League East, the MLB Network has reported that the Nationals and Braves are looking into an Andrew McCutchen deal and they both have the prospects to deal and it could become a reality. They both are also interested in the White Sox's ace Chris Sale so it will be interesting who gets who.

This should be an interesting winter meetings. Hopefully, the Mets can pull out a surprise or two that has not been reported.
