Commentary: Who do you think the Mets will trade this winter???
Its a very clear thing that the Mets need a shortstop and a corner outfielder that can compliment this offense the Mets have so far.
The Mets will have to make a trade to get this thing accomplished.
The Mets will look to shed payroll again and keep the payroll to a minimum. It is the Mets we are talking about..
So this is what I think the Mets will do this off-season and some of you will be upset for writing this.. But this is the Wilpons, and Sandy Alderson will help the Madoff posse.
But in my opinion, the Mets will look to shop Daniel Murphy, Jon Niese, Dillon Gee, Bartolo Colon, and Possibly Bobby Parnell this winter... Why? Because they all have a price tag in millions attached to them.
The Mets could also look to deal Travis d'Arnaud or Kevin Plawecki, which I think is a farce because they think Plawecki is better offensively. The Rockies and D'Backs could look for a catcher in a deal.. If Carlos Gonzalez is available d'Arnaud/Plawecki could get discussed..
With the current successful display of Dilson Herrera at second base, Daniel Murphy becomes pretty much expendable. The Mets also have Wilmer Flores and L.J. Mazzilli down on the farm getting better by the day. Murphy could demand $8M - $10M next year in arbitration..
Jon Niese the only lefty on the Mets starting staff could be more valuable than Dillon Gee. Both coming off this season with occurring injuries. Both have bounced back well enough to reestablish
some value. Niese will make only $8M and Gee will make about $6M...
Bartolo Colon, who will be 42 next year will be making $11 Million in 2015. The innings eater will not be needed as much with Matt Harvey on the mend.. They will also have Noah Syndergaard and Rafael Montero ready to get promoted in the near future..
Bobby Parnell, who is also on the mend from arm surgery will be making $4M + next season. The Mets could have Parnell and Mejia in the back of the bullpen with Vic Black, Jeurys Familia, and Josh Edgin. The Mets will also Scott Rice coming back next season as well. Does it make the bullpen better, oh yes but, the Mets always could surprise..
The two teams that make sense for a trade would be Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Cubs have a tremendous amount of shortstops to pick from. Starlin Castro, Javier Baez and Addison Russell who all should all be mentioned this off-season.
The Dodgers have over abundance of outfielders with the emergence of Yasiel Puig and Scott Van Slyke. The have high priced Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier available.. and Carl Crawford which can be had for a bucket of balls..
Everyone I talked to wants Giancarlo Stanton on the New York Mets, but here are some things to keep in mind. Stanton still controllable and reports think the Marlins might try to lock him up long term. Sought of what the Mets did with David Wright and Jose Reyes early in their careers... The Marlins outfield with Marcell Ozuna and Christian Yelich is nothing to blink about..
Then we have the free agent market which will be limited. The Mets have a price structure and Melky Cabrera could fit the bill in 2015 as my sleeper pick for a outfielder..
If the Mets want they could slide Matt Reynolds over to short or even have Wilmer Flores or Dilson Herrera play there if they wanted to... All could be a reasonable solution if the market slips out of there hands.
But remember the Mets will taking another loss this season from dramatic ticket sale decrease, so look for the Mets to minus salaries before adding new players with hefty salaries in 2015.
