Jacob deGrom has been named the National League Rookie of the Month for July.
DeGrom went 4-1 with a 1.39 ERA for the month. He is the first Mets winner since Justin Turner in May 2011.
DeGrom initially indicated that he did not even know such an award existed, but he was pleased to earn it. He joins Arizona's Chris Owings (April), St. Louis' Kolten Wong (May) and Cincinnati's Billy Hamilton (June) as this season's monthly winners so far.
"It's an honor," deGrom said before the Mets departed for Washington, D.C. "I've been working hard. To see it pay off is kind of nice."
