Mets Minor League Roundup 6/8: Vaughn has big day for Vegas, Binghamton Snaps four Game Losing Streak, Mazzilli Drives in Two for Savannah


Mets Minor League Roundup 6/8:


Mets AAA - LAS VEGAS 5, FRESNO 4: Cory Vaughn went 3-for-4 and produced his first Triple-A home run -- a two-run shot in a four-run first inning. Right-hander Logan Verrett recorded his fifth victory. He allowed three runs (two earned) in five innings. Ryan Reid surrendered two hits in the ninth, but stranded the tying run at second base by getting Travis Ishikawa to line out and Juan Ciriaco to strike out. Box

Mets AA - BINGHAMTON 7, NEW BRITAIN 3: The B-Mets scored four runs in the eighth to break a 3-all tie and snap a four-game losing streak. The Rock Cats got on the board in the second against Tyler Pill. After the first two batters reached, Matt Koch singled. Reynaldo Rodriguez tried to score, but was thrown out at the plate by Travis Taijeron. However, ensuing batter Kyle Knudson also singled, plating Brad Boyer with the game’s first run. Binghamton answered in the third against Taylor Rogers. Taijeron doubled. Following back-to-back walks, Matt Reynolds chopped a potential inning-ending double play to shortstop. New Britain got the force at second, but Eddie Rosario’s throw to first sailed into the stands, bringing home two runs. The Rock Cats responded in the fifth. Sam Fuld and Rosario walked. With one out, Kennys Vargas hit a sacrifice fly to tie the score at 2. In the bottom half, Taijeron led off with a double. Three batters later, Brian Burgamy brought him home with a single and the B-Mets took a 3-2 lead. The score stayed that way until the top of the seventh. With T.J. Chism in his second inning of relief, Rosario reached on a two-out single. Nate Hanson doubled to put runners at second and third. Vargas responded
with a single to even the score at 3. The B-Mets took the lead for good in the eighth against Cole Johnson. Kyle Johnson doubled and Rylan Sandoval following with an RBI single. Following a single and walk, Jayce Boyd golfed an RBI single. Matt Clark scampered home on a wild pitch and Darrell Ceciliani capped the inning's scoring with a sac fly. Cody Satterwhite (3-1) tossed a scoreless eighth to earn the win. Pill allowed two runs on four hits over five innings. Box

Mets High A - PALM BEACH 4, ST. LUCIE 3: Aderlin Rodriguez launched a two-run homer with one out in the ninth against Cardinals starter Thomas Lee to cut the deficit to one run, but the Mets could not score again. Chris Thomas entered and got Gilbert Gomez to ground out and Albert Cordero to strike out to end the game. For 8 1/3 innings, Lee was a force on the mound. He needed 81 pitches to get through the first eight innings. He induced three double-play balls. Of the four hits he surrendered over the first eight innings, three were infield singles. Before Rodriguez’s ninth-inning shot, the only run the Mets scored was unearned. It came in the second inning on Gomez's groundout. Mets starter Michael Fulmer flirted with trouble for most of his five innings. He surrendered a run-scoring groundout with the bases loaded in the second to open the scoring. In the third, Fulmer loaded the bases with no outs but only gave up a sac fly to Bruce Caldwell. It appeared Fulmer had settled down, but with two outs in the fifth Caldwell launched a two-run homer to give the Cardinals a 4-1 lead. Fulmer was charged with four earned runs on eight hits in five innings while striking out three. Seth Lugo pitched four innings of scoreless relief and struck out four to keep the Mets in the game. Mets A - SAVANNAH 11, CHARLESTON 6: Jeff McNeil and Dominic Smith drove in three runs apiece. L.J. Mazzilli went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Patrick Biondi also had three hits. Box
