According to Andy Martino of the NY Daily News, the plan for the Mets bullpen revolves on tonight's start for Jenrry Mejia. If he performs, he will stay in the Mets rotation otherwise he could be in the bullpen. The Mets believe Mejia could benefit from working out of the pen. They have him on a undetermined innings limit and could help him.
That could have Daisuke Matsuzaka back in the rotation and could draw a call from Triple-A Vegas and bring up Rafael Montero. At first, it was much believed that Jacob deGrom could've been the first call up, but Andy Martino debunked that rumor that in his report.
The plan is to have Montero work some innings out of the pen for Vegas and call him up for Major League action.. If Montero got called up, that would leave veterans Kyle Farnsworth or Jose Valverde on the chopping block.
Mets insiders say if Mejia or Dice-K can't hold down 5th spot there is also a option to put Montero in there.
The plan all starts tonight to see if Mejia is the answer in either the Mets rotation or bullpen, more to follow...
