Mets Minor League Roundup 5/26: Gorski throws complete game shutout for B-Mets, McGowan tosses seven inning shutout (rain shorten)

Mets Minor League Roundup 5/26:

Mets AAA - SACRAMENTO 9, LAS VEGAS 5: The River Cats swept the four-game series and handed Las Vegas (32-19) its season-high sixth straight loss. Center fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis hit a three-run homer in the first inning to tie the score at 3. Andrew Brown added a two-run homer in the seventh that capped the scoring. Starter Greg Peavey allowed six runs on seven hits and five walks in 4 1/3 innings. Box

Mets AA - BINGHAMTON 5, NEW BRITAIN 0: Darin Gorski threw his first career complete-game shutout. The southpaw surrendered two hits and faced three over the minimum to secure a four-game series sweep, Binghamton’s first since April 2012. Gorski’s big day started on the wrong note as Corey Wimberly lined the first pitch into the left-field corner for a double. He responded by retiring 14 straight batters. Wimberly proved to be the only Rock Cat to reach second base. Binghamton gave Gorski the lead early thanks to some shaky New Britain fielding. Kyle Johnson walked to open the bottom of the first. With one out, Rock Cats second baseman Tony Thomas booted a potential double-play ball. Matt Clark then singled, plating Johnson. Clark dashed for second on the throw home. He drew an errant throw from catcher Kyle Knudson. Kevin Plawecki raced home with Binghamton’s second run when the toss skipped into center field. In the fourth, Darrell Ceciliani doubled with one out. Dustin Lawley followed by blasting his fourth homer. Brad Boyer’s single in the fifth was the last hit Gorski surrendered. He posted a perfect sixth and seventh and used a double play to erase a walk in the eighth. After a throwing error by Lawley prolonged the ninth, Gorski induced Kennys Vargas to pop out to second on his 107th pitch to secure the shutout. Gorski (4-2) struck out six and issued one walk in the 13th two-hitter in franchise history. It was Gorski’s fifth career complete game and second of nine innings in length. Travis d’Arnaud went 0-for-4 as the designated hitter in his second rehab game. Box

Mets A - SAVANNAH 2, AUGUSTA 0 (8 innings): Kevin McGowan tossed a seven-inning shutout in a game halted by rain with one out in the top of eighth. McGowan (3-1) allowed three hits and one walk while striking out two. He has now pitched 33 2/3 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run. Jorge Rivero's RBI double broke a scoreless tie in the sixth. L.J. Mazzilli had a run-scoring triple in the eighth before action was stopped. Jeff McNeil went 2-for-3 with a walk and scored both runs. Box
