Mets Rumors: Mets have Joel Hanrahan on the radar for bullpen help
According to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish, the Mets are very interested in free agent reliever Joel Hanrahan to fortify the back end of their bullpen. Jerry Crasnick of ESPN lists the Mets, Yankees, Angels, Rangers, Rockies, Royals, Athletics, Red Sox and Rays as teams that are believed to have interest in Hanrahan.
Hanrahan–who is 11 months removed from Tommy John Surgery–was reportedly 90-92 in a session he held for teams last month, and it set to throw for teams again this Thursday, with his eyes set on signing with a team shortly thereafter.
The 32-year-old was one of the game’s best closers from 2011-2012, saving 76 games and posting an ERA just over 2.00. Hanrahan–who signed with the Red Sox last offseason–last pitched in the early stages of 2013 before going under the knife in May. The hard-throwing right-hander has averaged 95.5 mph on his fastball in his career.
