Mets News: Injuries to Granderson, Lagares might force Mets to bring up Kirk Nieuwenhuis
Curtis Granderson and Juan Lagares departed Monday's 7-3 win against the Arizona Diamondbacks in consecutive innings with injuries.
Lagares suffered a pulled right hamstring running to first base on a fielder's choice grounder in the seventh inning and is a disabled list candidate.
Granderson departed an inning earlier with bruises to his left forearm, rib cage and knee. X-rays of all three body parts were negative, although Granderson struggled to put on his shoes after the game.
Manager Terry Collins said the Mets would bring a Triple-A Las Vegas player to Phoenix, to be activated assuming Lagares lands on the DL after he is re-evaluated Tuesday.
That is expected to be outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who is hitting .310 with two homers and eight RBIs in 42 at-bats in the Pacific Coast League.
