Mets News: Dillon Gee penciled in as Mets Starter on Opening Day
According to ESPN's Mets beat writer Adam Rubin, the Mets have penciled Dillon Gee's name in for starting pitcher on opening day on March 31 against the Washington Nationals. It will be his first career opening start.
Jon Niese was last years opening day starter and was projected to be this years opening day pitcher, but with the all his ailments he has fell behind so he is most likely to open the season on the DL and pitch on April 6th (retroactive from spring training).
Gee went 4-2 with a 2.72 ERA against the Nats last season.
Overall, he had career highs in innings (199), starts (32), complete games (two), strikeouts (142) and ERA (3.62) in 2013.
Stephen Strasburg is due to start on Opening Day for the Nats, followed by Gio Gonzalez in Game 2 and Jordan Zimmermann in Game 3 of the series.
