Mets News: Dillon Gee Officially Named 2014 Opening Day Starter
Dillon Gee has officially been named the 2014 New York Mets Opening Day starter. He will start March 31 opposite Washington Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg at Citi Field.
Manager Terry Collins informed Gee before Monday's Grapefruit League Game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Gee, 27, will become the 23rd pitcher to start on Opening Day for the Mets, and the eighth homegrown pitcher, joining Dwight Gooden, Bobby Jones, Jerry Koosman, Jonathon Niese, Mike Pelfrey, Tom Seaver and Craig Swan.
Jon Niese should have been named the opening day starter, but has had some minor setbacks. Instead will be placed on the 15 Day DL and is scheduled (retroactive) to start against the Cincinnati Reds on April 6th at Citi Field.
