Mets News and Notes: Mejia OK, Ike get Starts, Chris Young down, Murphy in Labor

Mets News and Notes:

Jenrry Mejia was examined by a team doctor and also threw a baseball Sunday and was deemed healthy, Terry Collins said.

The manager added that Mejia is all set to face the Cincinnati Reds on Friday at Citi Field.

Mejia had been struck with a line drive in the right forearm Friday in Montreal. X-rays there were negative, and he was diagnosed with inflammation.
Your Opening Day starter at first base for the Mets? It's Ike Davis.

Terry Collins said he selected Davis because of his favorable career numbers against Stephen Strasburg (.364, two homers in 11 at-bats).

Still, Collins said all three first basemen will play.

Josh Satin will start Game 2 against left-hander Gio Gonzalez. And Collins sounded like Duda would start Game 3.

Chris Young is out of the Opening Day lineup with a right quadriceps strain, Terry Collins said. The injury occurred in Montreal during the weekend.

Collins said Lucas Duda would have started in left field if he didn't lose more than two weeks of spring training to a hamstring injury.

Andrew Brown instead will start in left field.
Daniel Murphy is not in the Opening Day lineup. His wife has gone into labor with the couple's first child.

Murphy's absence likely will allow Eric Young Jr. and Juan Lagares to be in the lineup for Game 1.

Murphy currently is in Florida.
