So here it is.... Updated 2/4... barring any other big name signing..
Manager & Coaches
# Name Position
10 Terry Collins Manager
51 Dave Hudgens Batting Coach
59 Dan Warthen Pitching Coach
26 Tom Goodwin First Base Coach
18 Tim Teufel Third Base Coach
7 Bob Geren Bench Coach
25 Ricky Bones Bullpen Coach
78 Eric Langill Bullpen Catcher
54 Dave Racaniello Bullpen Catcher
Travis d'Arnaud finally gets his chance to prove himself as a everyday catcher. Behind him expect Anthony Recker, Juan Centeno, Taylor Teagarden to battle it out this spring.
Ike Davis, Lucas Duda will battle for the starting position, while Josh Satin, Wilmer Flores, and Zach Lutz will provide backup. Lutz more likely to get optioned. Time for Ike to show some self worth on a team that does not believe in him anymore. Murphy could get some playing time there as well*
Update: The Mets signed 1B/OF Matt Clark who was drafted by the Padres and is only 27 years old. Could be a sleeper as Clark has shown true power.. Click here for more..
Daniel Murphy will man second base, while Eric Young Jr. will prove backup or start there as indicated below* and so will Wilfredo Tovar, who is most likely to be optioned.
Its Ruben Tejada's position to lose here... Omar Quintanilla signed as insurance along with Wilfredo Tovar as backup..
Newly Signed Curtis Granderson will be the starter here... Along with Eric Young backing him or starting there* with New Signee Chris Young, Lucas Duda, and Andrew Brown also in the wings..
Juan Lagares' defense will get him the start, while Curtis Granderson will backup the position along with Chris Young (One could start there*), and Matt den Dekker, remember him... Kirk Nieuwenhuis on the outside looking in for a spot...
Chris Young should get most of the starts here... Bench help Andrew Brown, Juan Lagares, Matt den Dekker... On the outside looking in: Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Cesar Puello, who will most likely be optioned after being suspended last year.
Bartolo Colon, Jonathan Niese, Dillon Gee, Zach Wheeler
5th Spot Open Out Of: Jenrry Mejia, John Lannan, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Jacob deGrom, Rafael Montero/ Noah Syndergaard, most likely to be optioned to Triple-A
Bobby Parnell is the obvious closer...Carlos Torres will be the long man...Vic Black will look to setup along with Jeurys Familia. "Everyday" Scott Rice will provide lefty support with Josh Edgin also looking for a spot. Gonzalez Germen who made an appearance last year looks also to bolster the bullpen.. Outside candidates are: Jeff Walters, Ryan Reid, Steven Matz, Erik Goeddel
Update: The Mets sign Kyle Farnsworth to a minor league contract for depth and could provide setup and closer help... Mets still looking for another big fish like Fernando Rodney as indicated in our reports..Click Here for more..
Should look like this:
RF: C. Young
*The Mets have many options at leadoff, but the most that make sense is Eric Young Jr since he is fast and could steal bases.. Terry Collins has indicated that he could have Eric Young leadoff and take some reps in left with either Chris Young or Curtis Granderson manning center.. Juan Lagares who is defensively built to save runs, but has to learn to swing the bat better and hit for a higher average.. Another way the Mets can go is have Daniel Murphy play 1B and Eric Young can play at 2B..
Murphy - 2B/1B
Wright - 3B
Granderson - LF/CF
C. Young - RF/CF
Davis - 1B
d'Arnaud - C
Tejada - SS
Bench: Satin, Flores, Duda, den Dekker, Young, Brown
SP: Colon, Niese, Gee, Wheeler, Mejia
RP: Parnell, Black, Familia, Rice, Edgin, Germen, Torres, Farnsworth
