Mets Rumors: Big Changes Ahead for the Mets, Aoki, Peralta, Ethier or Kemp or Granderson..and more

Here comes Aoki for Ike

Mets Rumors:

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post,  the Mets are in for BIG changes in 2014.

He predicts that the Mets trade Ike Davis to Milwaukee for outfielder Norichika Aoki .. Get Free Agent Jhonny Peralta to man SS. And the Mets will  try to pry Andre Ethier or Matt Kemp from the Dodgers to man the outfield. Or even Curtis Granderson to fill the void if needed be. Of course there are backup plans too...

Other scoped things taken from his article:

The Mets are much less likely to chase after top free agents like Shin-Soo Choo and Jacoby Ellsbury than they are to add multiple pieces.

Ike Davis is very likely to be dealt, with Lucas Duda getting an opportunity to play first with Josh Satin. Sherman suggests that a Davis-for-Aoki swap could save the Mets money and create a better fit for New York.

It would save the Mets about $1.5 million in 2014 and provides a .350 on-base percentage leadoff man. That allows them to improve their depth by turning the on-base challenged Eric Young into a super sub/late-game runner/double-switch piece. Aoki's numbers are good...

He says the Mets are going to use next week’s GM Meetings to better gauge Davis’ market.

Jhonny Peralta is definitely on the club's radar, and they could try to sign him early in order to set the tone for the offseason.

Sherman says they are not scared off by his Biogenesis ties. They know he has limited range. But they need offense at the position: Their shortstops had an MLB-low three homers and an NL-low .561 OPS.

If not Peralta, The Sherman suggests the Mets will pursue the trade market that could include the Indians’ Asdrubal Cabrera, the White Sox’s Alexei Ramirez, the Athletics’ Jed Lowrie and — depending on who they go with as their starter — the Diamondbacks’ Didi Gregorius or Chris Owings could be other possiblities..

Noah Syndergaard and Zack Wheeler may well be off limits, the Mets could deal from their other pitching depth, including Rafael Montero.  The Mets could also add Gabriel Ynoa to the mix..

Sherman floats that Terry Collins had Matt Kemp in the Dodgers’ minor leagues and loves him. But his multiple injuries, remaining salary (six years at $128 million) and the fact Los Angeles will still expect a big return makes him a hard buy. The Dodgers might sell low on Ethier to get out of as much of the four years at $71.5 million left as possible. Or the Mets could simply try to buy Curtis Granderson.

The Bench could get a upgrade with free-agent catcher Jose Molina (someone like him) as a possible backup for d’Arnaud.  A winning utility player such as Nick Punto, which I think would help the Mets... Sherman suggests that if the budget works, they could gamble on Corey Hart as a heavily used first baseman and corner outfielder. If Hart signed, he would probably play against lefties..

In the Rotation , Sherman sais that the Mets are looking for Innings Eaters without Matt Harvey in rotation....Free agents Starters such as Bronson Arroyo and Scott Feldman perhaps will stretch their budget too much, forcing them to consider a reunion with Chris Capuano or Mike Pelfrey, or trade for someone such as Detroit’s Rick Porcello or Baltimore’s Bud Norris.

In the Bullpen the Mets also plan to add at least one late-inning bullpen piece to team with Bobby Parnell. That could be a LaTroy Hawkins return.

He suggests, maybe an Edward Mujica or Kevin Gregg could fit the criteria, or a possible trade of Either San Diego’s Luke Gregerson or Colorado’s Matt Belisle.

If any of this becomes reality wake me up, I'll take it....

The Mets would have in their 2014 Lineup look like this...

  1. Norichika Aoki, LF (Good on-Base, Slap Hitter with Speed, Bye Ike)
  2. Daniel Murphy, 2B.
  3. David Wright, 3B.
  4. Andre Ethier, RF(Ok/Probable)/ Matt Kemp(Dream)/Curtis Granderson(Possible)
  5. Jhonny Peralta, SS.(Probably),Asdrubal Cabrera(stretch), Jed Lowrie(stretch)
  6. Lucas Duda, 1B.
  7. Travis d’Arnaud, C.
  8. Juan Lagares, CF.

Mets invisioned Rotation
  1. Jon Niese
  2. Zach Wheeler
  3. Dillon Gee
  4. Rick Porcello(Probably)/Bud Norris (Ok)
  5. Chris Capuano(Probably)/Mike Pelfrey (Not Crazy About This)
Mets invisioned Bullpen
  1. Bobby Parnell - CL
  2. LaTroy Hawkins (Probably)Matt Belisle(Best)/Edward Mujica(Best)/Luke Gregorson(Good)/Kevin Gregg(Last Resort) -SU
  3. Vic Black - SU
  4. Scott Rice - MR
  5. Josh Edgin - MR
  6. Jeurys Familia - MR/Jenrry Mejia - MR
  7. Carlos Torres - LR

Nothing is set in stone and some can be deleted by trades, but not bad at all,  Bullpen solid..  Back end of Starters Questionable... Of course this is all fiction, but some of this has to be real according to his sources with the Mets..  The Hot Stove is Burning....Love It!
