According to the Denver Post, Rockies Outfielder Dexter Fowler could be shopped for the right price this winter.
The Rockies are looking for a first basemen since losing out on Cuban defector Jose Daniel Abreu to the White Sox. Sources close to the Post said the Rockies reached $63 million, just shy of the White Sox’s winning bid of six years, $68 million.
The Mets have a plethora of first basemen that includes Ike Davis, Lucas Duda, and Josh Satin. Not to mention, that the Mets can use Daniel Murphy or Wilmer Flores at the position if they decide to shake things up.
The Mets have not been happy with the production of Ike Davis and with the Colorado Air maybe the Mets can suggest that Davis' production would improve and use this to their advantage.
The Mets would like a power hitter like Carlos Gonzalez or Troy Tulowitzki, but the Mets might be interested in a guy like Fowler because he is a lead-off hitter who gets on base and does steal bases.. Eric Young did do a honorable job at lead-off this season, but is projected to be a fourth or fifth outfielder next season. Some have said, Daniel Murphy could be a guy shopped with Young taking over at 2B.
The problem is the Mets do feel comfortable with Juan Lagares in Center Field and maybe in search for a corner outfielder, unless they decide Lagares could convert to the corners..
Fowler only played 119 Games this year with a .269 batting average. He did have a .369 OBP which can be comparable to what the Mets had in Jose Reyes. The only drawback I see is Fowler does strikeout alot. He K'd 105 times this year..
