Mets News: Jeremy Hefner may need Tommy John Surgery, Wilmer Flores should play Saturday
Jeremy Hefner, already on the DL with a strained MCL in his right elbow, may require Tommy John surgery.
Sandy Alderson said Hefner will see another doctor on Monday to determine if the procedure is necessary.
Tommy John surgery recovery usually lasts 12 months or more and would knock out Hefner for much if not all of the 2014 season.
"I don't know how serious a possibility, but we have not been able to rule that out at this point," Alderson said.
Wilmer Flores should return to the starting lineup Saturday for the first time since twisting his right ankle in Monday's game at Dodger Stadium.
Flores tested the balky ankle running before Friday's game at Petco Park. His only appearance since Monday came two days later, when he had a pinch-hit single in the ninth at L.A. and then departed for a pinch runner.
"He ran good," Terry Collins said about Flores' pregame activity Friday.
