Parnell wants to stay with the Mets
Bobby Parnell knows he could be trade bait no matter how unlikely a deadline deal appears for the New York Mets.
When the Trading deadline passes Wednesday, the hard-throwing closer hopes to still have a locker in Flushing.
“This is my home,” Parnell told the New York Daily News. “I got drafted by them, I have been here since ’08. Citi Field is my home. This is my team. I thoroughly enjoy playing here. I feel the direction of the team is awesome and I want to be a part of that.”
The 28-year-old right-hander has stepped up in the absence of the injured Frank Francisco, posting a 2.16 ERA with 22 saves in 49 appearances.
The Mets reportedly want a top prospect for Parnell, who won’t become a free agent until 2016.
“I feel like every year, there is something being said about it,” Parnell said of the trade rumors. “It’s an awesome feeling. If you are being considered for a trade, obviously you’ve done something right. The other aspect is that I haven’t been traded yet, so the Mets like me being here.”
