Less than three weeks before the trade deadline, the Los Angeles Dodgers have a scout watching the Mets, a source told ESPNNewYork.com.
That does not mean a trade will materialize before the July 31 deadline, but it is worth monitoring.
The Mets' interest in Andre Ethier is not completely clear -- and likely would be highly dependent upon how much money the Dodgers kicked in.
For the record: No one said the scout was looking at the Mets to identify return pieces in an Ethier trade.
Ethier is owed $15.5 million in 2014, $18 million in 2015, $16 million in 2016 and $18 million in 2017.
Andre Ethier's Career Stats:
|162 Game Avg.||568||78||164||37||3||20||84||4||3||61||108||.289||.361||.469|
Do I want the Mets to trade for Andre Ethier? Absolutely not, He reminds me of a lefty version of Jason Bay, but I can be wrong.. Mike Stanton is one player that that I would even trade Syndergaard, and Flores to get. What would make Ethier appealing to the Sabermetric Mets is that even though he makes alot of money and his power numbers are down, he still has a great track record with a good OBP. He is a lifetime .290 hitter and Averages 84 RBI's in his career... If a trade for Ethier would pan out, it would only mean the Mets would not give up much and take the remainder of his contract in return to make way for Yasiel Puig.. - DD
