Jacob Turner turned in seven scoreless innings in his season debut and Ed Lucas' first major league hit opened up the scoring in a four-run seventh, as the reeling Marlins ended their lengthy losing streak Friday with 5-1 victory over the New York Mets.

The 31-year-old Lucas was spending his 10th season in the minors before making his major league debut on Thursday. A day later, he broke up a scoreless tie when his shallow fly ball into center fell in for a single.

"It was great, obviously I'm really, really excited about that first hit, it means a lot to me and my family," said Lucas.

Jeff Mathis added a sac fly and Jordan Brown had a pinch-hit two-run double later on in the frame to help the Marlins snap their season-worst nine-game skid.

Turner (1-0) scattered just five hits and struck out three in his 10th major league start. Marcell Ozuna extended the longest active hitting streak in the majors to 16 games with a 3-for-4 performance. He also knocked in a run.

New York was coming in riding a season-high five-game winning streak after posting its first ever sweep of the New York Yankees in the Subway Series, but struggled to manufacture any offense down in Miami.

Daniel Murphy had two hits and drove in the Mets' only run. Shaun Marcum (0-6) surrendered all four runs during the seventh to take the loss. He gave up seven hits over 6 2/3 innings.

Marcum escaped a bases-loaded jam in the fifth on Mathis' double-play groundout and had Miami scoreless through six innings, but faltered badly in the seventh.

Derek Dietrich began the frame with a double and moved to third on Ozuna's soft fly into right. Lucas then followed with the tie-breaking hit, and after Dobbs walked to load the bases, Miami went ahead 2-0 on Mathis' sac fly.

Marcum's day ended after the Marlins tacked on two more when the pinch-hitting Brown doubled on an opposite-field hit into the gap in left-center. Robert Carson took the mound and got Juan Pierre to ground out to end the inning.

A two-out infield hit from Omar Quintanilla in the top half of the eighth set up New York's only score. Murphy followed with a double into the gap in left center, but David Wright left him at second by striking out to end the inning.

The Mets had just one other chance with a runner in scoring position the whole game.

"Tonight we didn't get any big hits," said Mets manager Terry Collins. "When we had guys in scoring position, we certainly didn't drive them in."

Ozuna's double down the left field line in the eighth accounted for the final margin.

Game Notes

Marcum walked two, ending a three-game stretch for New York without issuing a free pass ... Davis' double was his first extra base hit since May 9 ... Of the Marlins' 14 wins, four have come against the Mets ... Ozuna's 16-game hitting streak is the second longest by a rookie in club history. Edgar Renteria's 22-game streak in 1996 in the franchise best ... Miami optioned pitcher Duane Below to Triple-A New Orleans prior to the game to make room for Turner.
