Mets News: Wheeler Tipping his Curve?

Mets News:

Terry Collins said he received roughly 10 text messages and emails from people in the business that Zack Wheeler was tipping his breaking balls during Tuesday's game against the Chicago White Sox.

Collins said the Mets spotted the same thing during the game, as well as to an extent in Wheeler's first outing, when he nonetheless tossed six scoreless innings at Atlanta.

Collins and pitching coach Dan Warthen did not want to put too much in Wheeler's head during Tuesday's start, so they mostly left it alone in game. But Warthen will work extensively with Wheeler on that issue when the rookie throws a bullpen session Thursday in Denver in preparation for Sunday's home debut against the Washington Nationals.

Collins normally would avoid publicly discussing the issue, but the manager said it was so obvious in Wheeler's case because the rookie had different arm speeds for different pitches that it already is widely known.

Wheeler surrendered four runs in 5 1/3 innings against the White Sox.
