Mets News: Harvey to Friday instead of Dillon Gee

Mets News:

According to ESPN.com, Matt Harvey will slip ahead of Dillon Gee in the rotation and pitch the Friday night series opener against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field on standard rest.

Gee will pitch Saturday, with Zack Wheeler making his third major league start Sunday.

Terry Collins had three motivations for the decision:

• Harvey threw only 72 pitches Sunday in Philadelphia, when a rain delay cut short his appearance after six scoreless innings.

• Gee could use the extra rest because he has dealt with elbow tendinitis.

• Having Gee slip between Harvey and Wheeler splits the flamethrowers in the rotation, which Collins has been seeking to do.
