Shortstop Omar Quintanilla has been pulled from Triple-A Las Vegas' game on Wednesday night after three innings, signaling he likely would be the replacement assuming Ruben Tejada lands on the DL with a quadriceps injury.
Struggling shortstop Ruben Tejada injured his right quad, the same injury that forced him to miss over a month last season in the ninth inning Wednesday night. He will be evaluated by team doctors in the morning.
Quintanilla, who failed to make the team out of spring training when the Mets opted not to carry a backup shortstop, is having a torrid May. He is hitting .413 with one homer, 10 RBIs and 10 walks during the month.
Overall, Quintanilla is hitting .333 in Triple-A this season.
He hit a combined .243 with four homers and 16 RBIs in 169 at-bats last season with the Mets and Baltimore Orioles.
