Mets News: Andrew Brown suffers oblique injury

Mets News:

Andrew Brown found an inopportune time to suffer an injury.

Stationed at first base for the second time in three days with Triple-A Las Vegas, Brown was forced to depart Sunday’s 51s game in Omaha with an oblique strain the half-inning after producing a third-inning sacrifice fly.

Brown, who has played more games at first base than any other position in his minor league career, had moved to that position this weekend with the 51s amidst Ike Davis’ struggles.

Had the Mets wanted to pull the trigger and promote Brown, he would have been eligible to return to the big leagues Friday, after spending 10 days in the minors. He had been demoted last week once Rick Ankiel signed.

Now, if Davis should end up in the minors and the Mets wanted to use a player from Triple-A, Zach Lutz and Josh Satin would appear the logical candidates. Lutz, unlike Satin, is on the 40-man roster.
