Mets Minor League Roundup 5/3: Nieuwenhuis' nice catch (video), Syndergaard Hammered

Mets Minor League Roundup 5/3:

Class AAA - SACRAMENTO 3, LAS VEGAS 0: Bruce Billings, Hideki Okajima and Dan Otero combined on a three-hit shutout of the 51s. Chris Schwinden took a scoreless effort into the fifth but ultimately was charged with two runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out five in five innings. Kirk Nieuwenhuis also made a nice catch over the center field wall in a losing effort ( video below).  Box

Class AA - HARRISBURG 3, BINGHAMTON 1: The B-Mets stranded the tying run on base in the ninth inning and went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position in the final two innings. One out shy of suffering their third shutout loss of the season, the B-Mets cracked the scoreboard when Cesar Puello blasted a 1-1 offering from Ian Krol over the left-field wall for his first homer of the season. Krol then walked Francisco Pena and hit Wilfredo Tovar with an 0-2 pitch to put the tying run on
base. Aaron Barrett entered and struck out pinch-hitter Joe Bonfe to end the game and earn his fifth save. Harrisburg starter Blake Treinen (3-3) tossed seven scoreless innings. Harrisburg greeted B-Mets starter Jacob deGrom rudely in the first with four consecutive hits. Brian Goodwin produced his league-leading fifth triple. Josh Johnson brought him home with an infield single. Jerad Head followed with another single and Justin Bloxom gave Harrisburg a 3-0 lead with a two-run double. DeGrom (0-3) did cap his fourth start as a B-Met with five additional scoreless frames. After Treinen’s departure, the B-Mets nearly got on the board in the eighth against reliever Neil Holland. Danny Muno led off by shooting a pinch-hit double down the right-field line. He was stranded at second when Holland retired the next three batters. For Binghamton, Chase Huchingson fanned two in a perfect seventh and Jack Leathersich struck out the side in the eighth. Box

Class A - FORT MYERS 6, ST. LUCIE 0: Kennys Vargas had a two-out, tiebreaking single to right-center to score Miguel Sano in the sixth inning off Mets starter Noah Syndergaard. The
Miracle pulled away with a five-run seventh against relievers Pedro Feliciano and Chasen Bradford. Syndergaard suffered his first loss as a member of the organization. He allowed one run and eight hits while walking two and striking out five over six innings. Feliciano, working on back-to-back days for the first time with the Florida State League club, surrendered consecutive singles upon entering. He ultimately recorded two outs -- both sacrifice flies -- and was charged with three runs (one earned) on two hits. Third baseman Rylan Sandoval had a throwing error. Bradford allowed three hits and two runs and recorded the final out of the seventh. Wanel Mesa tossed a scoreless eighth. The Mets produced only six hits. Box

Class A - KANNAPOLIS 1, SAVANNAH 0 (suspended): The game, suspended after three full innings, will resume May 30 in Kannapolis. Steven Matz surrendered one run on two hits and a walk while striking out four in three innings. Box
