Mets News: Shaun Marcum going to see doctors, Laffey will replace him in rotation
Shaun Marcum is on his way from Port St. Lucie to New York -- not to pitch, but to be examined by team doctors.
"He has some real discomfort running from his shoulder up through his neck," manager Terry Collins said Wednesday, prior to the Mets' game against the Padres. "What that is, where it starts, what’s causing it, I think we won’t know until he sees the doctor tomorrow."
Collins added that Marcum is "very unlikely" to come off the disabled list and make his first scheduled start of the season Sunday. Aaron Laffey will "most likely" take his place.
"There’s a couple of other options we have, [but] we just thought in spring training from what we saw from Aaron Laffey that, due to his experience -- he’s had some success at this level -- that he would be our first option right now," Collins said.
