Mets News: John Buck sets RBI club record

Mets News:

John Buck homered for the third time in his first week as a Met. This time he opened the scoring Monday with a three-run shot in the second inning against Roy Halladay.

Buck now has 12 RBIs -- the most runs driven in by a Met in the team's first seven games of a season in franchise history.

“If I just keep doing what I’m doing, they can be surprised at the end of the year,” Buck said after Monday's 7-2 win while downplaying his early success. “That’s what I care about. Not right now.”

Monday's long ball came on a 2-0 cut fastball from Halladay.

“I’m sure he was trying to have it run to that down-and-away corner,” Buck said. “It stayed up on him a little bit.”

Said Terry Collins: “As we’re waiting to get Ike [Davis] going, he’s absolutely picked up the slack. You’ve got to have that. You’ve got to have somebody that does it until your big guys get swinging like they can. John Buck has come through with huge RBIs for us every night.”
